Board of Trustees approved Zomba City Council loan amounting to MK606.5
million for the construction of shops. The Council is constructing
sixty-four (64) modern shops at its bus depot and seventy-two (72), at Flea
market ring road to meet the increasing demand of the shops at affordable
rates. Additionally, the
project is to capacitate the council’s narrow revenue base, which is currently
placing the council into a baser situation to carter all its financial
obligations and also provide quality municipal services to the city residents.

monitoring team in the company of the Council officials visited the sites on 8th
May to appreciate progress of the handing over of sites to the successful contractors,

and PROW civils who were engaged to construct the shops.
RUCHI /F & F Construction Joint Venture Contractors
had already mobilized themselves on site, removed the service lines, and
cleared the site. The Contractor was finishing levelling of the grounds in
readiness for setting out the structures. Hauling of materials was also in progress.

Civils were also in the process of mobilizing resources on the site.
