DFLA organized an interactive meeting with the Northen Region Councils' Chief Executive Officer/ District Commissioners and Directors of Finance at Chatonda Lodge in Mzuzu on 4th July, 2023 under the theme “Growing Together: Opportunities and Challenges”. In attendance was the Mayor for Mzuzu City Council His Worship Gift D. Nyirenda representing DFLA Board of Trustees
The main objective of the meeting was to discuss with all the Northern Region councils the opportunities which are there and the challenges being faced in accessing DFLA loans for the betterment of both DFLA and the councils.
Three out of the seven Northern Region councils namely Nkhatabay District, M'Mbelwa District and Mzuzu City accessed loans from DFLA for the renovation of the rest house, construction of market fence, kiosks, rest house, Taifa market and procurement of refuse collection vehicle respectively. However, at the time of the meeting only Nkhatabay District Council was still servicing DFLA loan.
The challenges being faced by both DFLA and the Councils were noted and it was agreed to work on them for the good of both parties.
The councils were encouraged to make good use of DFLA being an inhouse Fund for commercial development projects for Local Authorities.
